This Position is located at Fort Meade, MD As a INVESTIGATIVE ASSISTANT you will be responsible for the following duties:
The incumbent serves as an Investigative Assistant (IA) in Federal Investigative Records Enterprise (FIRE) Automated Federal Leads Center (AFLC) located at Fort Meade, Md. The incumbent is responsible for conducting and reporting a variety of electronic record checks and a variety of technical and administrative duties in support of the program. Conduct a variety of records checks which includes verifying identifying data and searching for information of a discrepant or derogatory nature. The types of record checks conducted include statewide criminal history record checks, court records, education, employment, financial records, military records and other Federal and State Government Agencies. Enter and tracks data in the reporting system. Prepare testimonies summarizing information found and stating pertinent facts. Ensure that testimonies meet all pertinent formatting and quality requirements. Testimonies may be the basis for security clearance denial or revocation and, as such must be able to withstand third party scrutiny or challenge. As required, prepares extensions to other field elements. Ensure timely processing of daily workload as directed by mentoring/training personnel and the incumbents supervisor. Participate in fostering good working relationships with individuals such as Federal, State and Commercial records custodians, records supervisors, and database administrators. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Specialized experience required for this position is:
Basic knowledge of investigative procedures to perform records checks and prepare Reports of Investigation; basic knowledge of the Federal Investigative Program including DCSA policies contained in manuals, regulations, directives and operating instructions to review new investigative requests and completed Reports of Investigations (ROIs) for completeness in terms of personal identifying data and other miscellaneous data and provide information; basic working knowledge of Federal, state and local laws including an understanding of penal and municipal codes, judicial systems and processes. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
