About the Position:
The Forensic Toxicology Drug Testing Laboratory at Fort Meade is one of six drug testing laboratories within the Department of Defense. The laboratory provides scientifically valid and legally defensible test results for selected drugs of abuse or drug metabolites in urine specimens to a defined population. The Fort Meade laboratory currently provides testing for half of the service members in the U.S. Army, all of the service members in the U.S. Army Reserve, and all DoD civilian employees in test designated positions. In addition to its primary testing mission, the laboratory provides litigation support to all its serviced commands.
Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens
Perform solid and liquid phase extractions and prepare solutions appropriate for the derivatization of drugs and drug metabolites from urine specimens
Perform subsequent analysis, maintaining chain of custody at all times
Ensure proper maintenance, calibration and documentation of all analytical checmistry laboratory equipment
Plan, conduct and oversee development of new methods for identify and measuring emerging drugs of abuse and their metabolites in humans
Serve as technical and scientific subject matter expert in the troubleshooting of existing and new drug extraction and dectection methodologies
Evaluate new instrumentation for scientific capabilities and possible use
Provide technical assistance and training regarding laboratory methodology, instrumentation and standard operating procedures for assigned program areas
Testify in federal, military, state and foreign country courts as an expert witness

Experience required : To qualify, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Bachelors Degree : physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics
OR
Combination of education and experience - course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours of chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute education for the required specialized experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the specialized experience requirement --no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
